Tidewater Community College has selected 40 Sony SRP-X700P digital powered mixers as the A/V control solution for its new Advanced Technology Center. Opened in fall 2002, the facility features 24 computer and electronics laboratories and 16 classrooms for programs offered by TCC and Virginia Beach City Public Schools. The ATC will serve as a primary resource for instruction and training for information technology and computer science education in the South Hampton Roads region.
The Sony SRP-X700P can facilitate remote operation of VCRs DVD players, CD players and MD recorders, video screens, window curtains, projectors, lighting and other devices, as well as mixing and switching between wired and wireless microphones, OPC document cameras and video projectors.
The units were installed by Virginia Beach-based Dynamic Systems Integration. "The new ATC building at Tidewater Community College is a unique educational facility," explains DSI sales engineer Andrew Fantin. "The result of a partnership of TCC, the City of Virginia Beach Public School System and the City of Virginia Beach, the facility was designed as a state-of-the-art learning center and as such it needed to employ state-of-the-art technology. Through a unique sharing arrangement that results in college and high school students attending classes in the same building, the facility provides 16 classrooms and laboratories for Virginia Beach high school students and 24 classrooms and laboratories for college courses."Tidewater Community College director of technology Vernon Cramer reports the school's two primary concerns were flexibility and ease of operation. "In addition to its high-quality video and audio capabilities, the unit is flexible enough to grow with changes in technology while remaining extremely user-friendly," Cramer said.
Incorporating a PC-controlled user interface and an RGB/video switcher, the unit has an extensive list of capabilities that provides a broad range of digital mixing capabilities in an affordable, lightweight, compact 3U size. The SRP-X700P has a simple front panel layout designed to fit into a standard lectern and combines three critical presentation needs: sophisticated A/V switching; digital audio mixing and, a digital stereo power amp. The unit also features extensive wired and wireless microphone capabilities.
"The SRP-X700P will enable faculty to effortlessly switch between PC, document camera, VCR and DVD players, greatly enhancing the educational process by allowing them to focus on teaching rather than on the operation of their support equipment. Sony's SRP-X700P digital powered mixer also represents a significant cost saving contribution for this important new learning center," Fantin concluded.
