XDCAM by definition refers to tapeless technology and consists of XDCAM Optical and XDCAM EX. XDCAM Optical is made up of SD and HD camcorders and decks and relies on optical media for recording. This system utilizes blue-violet laser technology to achieve high data transfer rates and long recording times for day-to-day operations. Its file-based recording and random access capabilities not only remove the "linear-natured" barriers common to tape media, but also merge the AV and IT worlds by featuring the functions required for both domains.
XDCAM EX is the newest XDCAM member boasting an incredible feature sets that include three ½-inch CMOS sensors, amazing full 1920 x 1080 and 1280 x 720 HD recording capability plus flash memory recording. XDCAM EX uses solid state SxS removable media, based on the newest PCMCIA ExpressCard Technology. The high definition PMW-EX1 compact camcorder is ideal for customers from broadcasters through to independent videographers and film makers who want exceptional HD quality workflow at an affordable price.
XDCAM products have been adopted around the world by a wide variety of users such as cinematographers, production facilities, broadcasters and video professionals. As a future-proof nonlinear recording system, Sony XDCAM systems are unrivaled - and give you the ultimate solution for todays and tomorrows video productions.
