Even at 3000 Feet Below Sea Level

The entire fleet of Hydra series of Remote Operated Vehicles (ROV) deployed earlier this year will see even harsher environments than the aforementioned as they ride the HD wave, literally.

The Hydra series represents the backbone of a fleet of high powered remotely operated vehicle work systems with deepwater capabilities. These reliable and robust ROV's are deployed to accommodate underwater intervention tasks in support of oil and gas drilling, construction and production activities.

The idea of Remote Visual Inspection as a continuing discipline of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) is nothing new. NDT is the branch of engineering concerned with all methods of detecting and evaluating flaws in materials. Employing HD technology seemed to be a logical next step as the better the resolution, the better the examination, the better the results.

The application was rudimentary, the deployment was anything.. Deliver an HD quality picture, but deliver it from 3000 feet below sea level, with complete control of all camera functions, in a pressurized waterproof housing and make it reliable. The new FCB-H10 allowed the customer to capture the picture and the VISCA control they needed. Enlisting the help of a Systems Integrator, they provided us with the housing and a fiber-based IEEE1394 signal back to the control room.

To date the deployment has reached a total of 128 ROV's with more than 3500 hours of operation, without a camera related failure.
