Fire and Ice: Sony IEEE-1394 Cameras are Reliable Choice for Scientists

It's difficult to imagine a more harsh and demanding environment than the top of a volcano, but that is exactly where a Sony XCD-SX910 IEEE-1394 camera can be found hard at work 24/7.

The location is the infamous Mt. Saint Helens in the state of Washington. A team of scientists with the United States Geological Survey (USGS) uses an XCD-SX910 camera to constantly monitor the growth of the central lava dome. The camera is aimed at a specific target monolith within the crater and can detect precise position changes measured in just millimeters. Data from the camera is routed to a Matrox image capture system for continual processing and analysis.

Product Support

Customer satisfaction and product dependability are key considerations when it comes to vision systems. Our goal is to provide you with the quality service and support you expect from a camera technology leader like Sony.
