The Sony Landmark Theater display.
The 2008 DIGI Awards honored 14 winners in seven categories: retail, corporate, entertainment, education, healthcare, public venue and judges' choice. Landmark Theaters at Greenwood Village, in Denver, Colo. topped the entertainment category with its Sony professional display that won for its excellence in creativity.
The Sony lobby display installed last November is unique in that it is a 360-degree display using eight VPLFX52 rear projectors. The theater uses the display to feature trailers for upcoming films.
"It's unusual and like nothing we have seen in any other theater lobby," said Michael Berry, manager of strategic sales, who was involved in the project.
"This shows yet another example of Sony products involved in an award-winning project," said John Kaloukian, director, professional display group. "Awards from third parties help substantiate Sony's position and importance in the industry as a first class, high quality, state-of the-art innovator."Kaloukian said he hopes the recognition will bring more attention to Sony's capabilities and attract more theaters or other venues that may want similar displays.
Sony already has numerous digital signage displays in various theaters, sports stadiums, hotels, airports and restaurants nationwide.
Each winner will receive a trophy recognizing their achievement. All partners, including those involved in the software, content, fixture and hardware of the winning installations, will receive a certificate to recognize their contribution. Winning teams are invited to participate in a panel discussion held during the Digital Signage Expo February 27-28 in Las Vegas.
The DIGI Awards are the only industry award program that recognizes the resellers, dealers and users of digital signage.
