World Cam Upgrade: HVR-S270U / HVR-Z7U / HVR-Z5U

Sony is pleased to announce an upgrade program to convert the HVR-Z5U, HVR-Z7U and HVR S270U camcorders to world compatible (PAL/NTSC) models. The standard "U" models sold in the United States offer "24p" (native 23.976p or pull down), "30p" (29.97p), and "60i" (59.94i) in HD, and 480i DV or DVCAM only in SD.

Upgrade Program Screens

After the upgrade, the camera will retain its original specifications, and provide 576i PAL in SD and 25p and 50i in HD, all selectable via the camera's menu. (The procedure for switching between the 50Hz and 60Hz modes in the upgraded camera is shown above).

The cost of the upgrade is $300.00 including parts, labor and return freight from Sony to the end user. This upgrade is only offered to end-users who have purchased one of the three models mentioned above from a Sony U.S. authorized reseller or directly from Sony. After purchasing a new camera, customers desiring to upgrade their camera to WORLD CAM compatibility must contact one of the Sony Professional Service facilities listed below to schedule the upgrade. The end user will be required to send the camera with proof of purchase from a Sony U.S. authorized reseller or directly from Sony (pho-tocopies of invoices are acceptable) to one of the locations listed below. Customer is responsible for shipping charges to Sony.
