High Picture Quality
The PMW-400 incorporates three 2/3-inch-type Full-HD Exmor CMOS sensors (1920 x 1080) to achieve high resolution, high sensitivity (F12 at 60 Hz / F13 at 50 Hz), low noise (60 dB), and a wide dynamic range to give more freedom of expression for creative shooting.
Selectable Format and Bit Rates
The PMW-400 provides a wide variety of codec operation points. Users can record Full-HD video (1920 x 1080) at up to 50 Mbps
using MPEG HD422 as well as MPEG HD at 35 Mbps/ 25 Mbps, MPEG IMX at 50 Mbps, and DVCAM at 25 Mbps in MXF file, as standard supported formats. This camcorder also incorporates XAVC in the HD domain at a 100-Mbps data rate, enabling the creation of rich content with 10-bit quality. XAVC Intra is available now. XAVC Long is planned to be available in Fall 2014.

3.5-inch* QHD Color LCD Viewfinder
With a large, easy-to-read 3.5-inch QHD color LCD viewfinder as a standard accessory, the PMW-400 offers outstanding resolution of 960 × 540 pixels, strongly supporting critical focus control during HD shooting. The viewfinder cover can be flipped up to enhance visibility when the camera is set on a tripod.
*Viewable area measured diagonally.
Variety of Interfaces
The PMW-400 Series offers two lines of SDI output enabling, for example, the director and camera operator to concurrently check shot content via two separate monitors. Also, for monitoring purposes these camcorders can be connected via HDMI to professional displays as well as domestic-use TVs. The i.LINK connector can be used for HDV when SP 1440 (FAT) mode is selected, and for DV when DVCAM (FAT) mode is selected, for both input and output signal flows.
Studio Camera Solutions
An optional CBK-CE01, a 50-pin interface lets the PMW-400 connect to the optical fiber and digital triax camera adaptors for greater creative possibilities through multi-camera operation. By connecting to the CA-FB70 optical fiber or CA-TX70 digital triax camera adaptors, the PMW-400 can be used as a studio camera in live productions and transmit signals over long distances while maintaining the high picture quality. Manufacturer pre-installation of the CBK-CE01 option is available.
Efficient Field Operation with the Wireless Adapter
The PMW-400 is designed to support wireless operation using an optional wireless adapter, the CBK-WA101/IFU. The CBK-WA101/IFU was exclusively made for the PMW-400 camera to easily attach and detach via the single finger mechanism with built in BNC and DC connection. Using this adapter, the user can stream video to a mobile device, enabling crews to check shot contents on site. Once recording is completed, proxy files3 created on the wireless adapter can be immediately transmitted back to the station. The wireless adapter also enables remote control of basic camera functions via the mobile device.
