4K Technology

Rear projection televisions with native 1920 x 1080 high definition are now populating the consumer market. Any movie theater owner who aspires to deliver a better-than-home-theater experience today and in the future must ultimately provide higher-than-HD resolution. 4K delivers exactly that. Unanimously adopted in July 2005, the Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI) specification version 1.0 for digital cinema clearly establishes 4K projection, defined as 4096 by 2160 pixels displayed on a 1-to-1 basis. Sony's SRX Series is the world's first commercially-available projector to deliver this resolution.

Theater Owners
Sony CineAlta 4K™ Digital Cinema Systems secure the most exciting, highest resolution imagery for motion picture theaters. Sony Digital Cinema Systems protect a theater's investment by supporting present 2K content playback while, at the same time, protecting that investment for the advent of motion pictures produced and distributed in 4K... soon to be playing "at a theater near you."

Engineering Departments
CineAlta 4K Digital Cinema Systems are built to the standards that made Sony the number one brand name in the world: cost-effective, robust, functional. They are also built to the DCI Specification – providing 2K and 4K playback/projection, interoperability with currently installed systems and full-wrap security. And Sony's Screen Management System enables smooth operation and show management in every SXRD 4K auditorium.
