There's a whole new look available for today's VA Hospital operating room -- thanks to a series of new digital imaging products from Sony.
Sony has been developing dedicated products for medical applications for over 20 years and its recent advancements have become standard equipment for government, university and private medical institutions.
Among its recent innovations, Sony Medical has introduced the new DVO-1000MD, the only medical-grade DVD recorder that features a built-in hard drive. This recorder has two exclusive features - DVORECOVERY(tm) and DVOFAST (tm) - making this one of the most user-friendly recorders Sony has ever designed. DVORECOVERY features a built-in 80-gigabyte hard drive that provides the added confidence that in the event of an accidental power loss, only 4 seconds of the video will be lost. Each time a recording session is started video is streamed from the hard drive to the DVD+RW disk simultaneously. DVORECOVERY also enables Doctors to easily make duplicate copies of a study, without the need to connect another unit to make a copy. This saves time, money and helps improve the workflow. DVOFAST provides instant recording the moment the button is pressed and also enables the end user to remove a DVD in less than 2 minutes when the eject button is pressed. Sony utilizes DVD+RW optical discs that enable users to remove a disk within 90 seconds after the stop button is pressed. This saves a considerable amount of time when compared to the competition which can take between 5- 15 minutes to eject a disk! Sony realizes the importance of a system that does not slow down the workflow. The DVO-1000MD employs industry standard MPEG 2 video compression to capture images with exceptional clarity. Its built-in 80-gigabyte hard drive stores up to 30 hours of video.
For the past 20 years Sony has been providing innovative color video printers for Surgical and Radiology applications. New from Sony, this spring, the UP-55MD color printer features IMAGE PORT, designed to meet the changing needs of hospitals and teaching institutions. The Image Port feature, exclusive to the4 Sony UP55MD, enables the user to automatically capture still printed images after each print and store them on a small, portable USB storage device, like the Sony's MicroVault(tm). Images can later be imported into a laptop or PC for medical reporting, referrals or educational purposes. High resolution, photo like quality prints, are created in approximately 20 seconds and the new enhanced memory helps to prevent prints from being lost in case of an error.
The new Sony LMD-1950MD 19 medical grade LCD monitor is Sony's first flat panel monitor optimized for surgical operating room environments, incorporating the features that surgeons demand. Sony has adopted a newly designed 10-bit digital video signal processor that delivers superb video quality while reproducing lifelike images with accurate color reproduction and consistent grayscale, whether the image is static or moving. OR-friendly features, such as a 24 volt DC power supply, make it easier to integrate the monitor with surgical boom arms, and 20 user memory settings allows optimized settings for up to 20 different users. The LMD-1950MD is the right choice for medical facilities looking to improve their surgical imaging today and tomorrow.
Sony also offers the LMD-2140MD, a 21-inch medical-grade LCD monitor which is ideally suited for video endoscopy and cart installations. To round out the monitor line the recently introduced LMD-1420MD 14-inch medical grade LCD monitor is specifically designed for use as a secondary monitor or for office usage.
What's next from Sony Medical? The PWD-70MD, Sony's first XDCAM HD Optical Disc recording system for the OR is due to be released sometime this summer.
