E-Gov Meets V-Gov

Alec ShapiroWhen President Bush launched his E-Government Strategy in February 2002, a new era of government information services was born. At the time, the President outlined a government initiative that was aimed at utilizing IT technologies to make it easier for citizens and businesses to interact with the government and for government agencies and services to work more efficiently together. E-Gov meant more than putting government forms onto the Internet; as the President explained, E-Government involved utilizing existing and emerging technologies to "create more cost-effective and efficient ways to serve citizens."

Over the past three years, many new E-Government technologies have emerged that have allowed government agencies to achieve the President's goals. Video technologies have joined the E-Government arsenal and V-Gov, as we like to call it, now plays an integrated role in the way that government agencies like yours train your staff, communicate to American citizens, and accomplish many diverse tasks.

V-Gov is built on the premise that we now work in an environment dependent upon IP-based networking, wireless solutions and advanced visual imaging. CRT monitors are being replaced by LCDs. Communications are improved through a higher-definition video image quality and widescreen aspect ratios. Workflows are more efficient via random file-based access; workers and entire agencies can work together via collaborative communications. Ours is an era in which there is no longer a choice between AV or IT; rather, AV/IT is the acronym that now defines an age in which professionals utilize a broad range of IP-enabled video presentation and communication products for increased productivity in the office, on the road, or wherever government business is being conducted.

"The New Way of Business™" for government promises exciting new applications, new levels of performance and new workplace efficiencies. Our focus at Sony is squarely on helping government professionals increase their productivity and do their jobs better through networked technology and dynamic visual communications.

This first edition of Sony's Government eNews provides an overview of our company's contributions to the E-Government that you are now creating. Our IPELA™ line of IP-enabled videoconferencing products allows you to interconnect people, locations, devices and content in real-time and over unlimited distances with an unsurpassed level of quality. Our new GSA-listed XDCAM™ and MSW camcorders and VTRs take government videographers beyond Standard Definition to the visual advancements of widescreen 24P image capture and workflow flexibility. And our award-winning Anycast Station™ product, as reviewed by Government Video magazine, reflects "the New Way of Business," where one product can now deliver the efficiencies of multiple products.

Sony applauds you on your efforts in transforming our nation's government. We hope these newsletters alert you to the many ways we can contribute to your invaluable work. Please contact us with your opinions, input and advice. Together we can increase productivity and streamline operations to fulfill the President's vision of what an E-Government can truly achieve for our country.
