Sony's 4K SXRD Projector
Heralding a new era in large-venue video systems, Sony's 4K SXRD projectors have elevated the quality of projected images for applications ranging from high-resolution digital cinema to museums to mission critical, command and control.
The new Sony projectors deliver 4096 x 2160 pixel resolution -- nearly four times the pixel count of current HD displays -- as well as a high contrast ratio of more than 1800:1. This breakthrough technology is vital for any application where it is essential to display as much image content as was originally captured.
Two new models, the 10,000 ANSI lumen SRX-R110 and the 5,000 ANSI lumen SRX-R105, have been made possible by Sony's manufacturing advancement, the X-tal Reflective Display (SXRD)™ imaging device, a 1.55-inch (measured diagonally) Liquid Crystal on Silicon-based imager that meets the quality resolution level stipulated by the Digital Cinema Initiative (DCI). The SXRD device achieves these high picture quality standards by incorporating nearly 8.85 million effective pixels per imager at a narrow pitch of 8.5 micrometers, half the size and twice as detailed as currently available 2K resolution systems that are now being used for more common home theater applications. In every projector system, displaying absolute black is a major objective in order to achieve a high contrast ratio. The SXRD units' acclaimed, ultra-high contrast ratio is achieved through two key technologies - a "Vertically Aligned Liquid Crystal" system and an extremely thin liquid crystal cell gap. The SXRD device delivers a far deeper black level than traditional projection systems because of its ability to accurately align all molecules to block out light; meanwhile, an ultra thin cell gap of less than 2 micrometers, another determining factor, has been achieved through the use of an innovative planarization technology during the Silicon assembly process.
The results are breathtaking images with high-quality color tonal reproduction and incredible details.
A variety of operational benefits support a fail-safe and versatile usage of the SXRD projector. A dual-lamp system, utilizing Xenon lamps, provides user-selectable brightness as well as system back up; the feature is especially useful where "24/7" operation is required. Both of the SXRD units can display in single, dual and quad modes - allowing up to four quadrants of full HD images (1920 x 1080 pixel) to be projected simultaneously.
