Gladeville Baptist Church Delivers Unique View of Services with Sony-based Vaddio HD Camera System

Gladeville Baptist Church is using a unique high-definition video solution from Vaddio to provide image magnification during church services, baptisms, baby dedications, worship songs, sermons and more.

Vaddio noted that its WallVIEW CCU-H700 system is built around the Sony BRC-H700 high definition pan/tilt/zoom camera, with three CCD megapixel sensors and a 12X optical zoom lens. Vaddio's Quick-Connect CCU allows users to adjust the color, gain and iris functions of the H700, with just the turn of a knob. The Quick-Connect CCU's cabling system lets integrators use standard CAT 5 cabling to run both HD and SD video, camera power, black burst sync and camera control up to 500 feet.

"Working with companies like Vaddio helps us meet the needs of individual ministries and provide customized video solutions that enhance their services and their members' daily lives," said Mark Bonifacio, senior marketing manager, Sony Electronics' Broadcast and Production Systems Division. "Their expertise and Sony's camera technology is a great combination."

Spectrum Sound, a Nashville-based professional audio equipment and services, handled the installation and system integration for the 1,200-member ministry located in Gladeville, Tenn.

"There's a variance in light levels depending on what's taking place during the service, so we wanted to have the capability to control the cameras," said Jeff McGee, video systems engineer for Spectrum Sound. "Vaddio's CCU allowed the church to accomplish this while staying within the budget set aside for the project."

The projection and hallway system are designed to display high definition video content primarily from four cameras and two computers in the sanctuary. There are three 16:9 aspect projection screens positioned on stage, as well as hallway monitors to enhance the full worship experience. The larger on-stage screen in the center displays lyrics and message text, while the left and right screens display camera shots and/or text.

The production control room, where the services are recorded, is located on the main floor, directly under the front-of-house position, while the upstairs front-of-house position contains lighting, keynote and FOH audio positions.

"The introduction of the CCU to the WallVIEW line sealed the deal for us," said McGee. "The CAT 5 cabling is nice, and the CCU capability was the added benefit that rounded out the whole product package. Ultimately we ended up with a much quicker, neater installation with less labor costs."
