Technology Spotlight

Audio DetectionAdvanced Audio Detection
Unlike conventional audio detection where an alarm is triggered based on a preset audio level, the cameras and encoders with this technology trigger their alarms based on ambient sound conditions as the threshold. The cameras and encoders store and update ambient audio levels and frequencies, and when the threshold level based on this data is surpassed, an alarm is triggered.

Sony Security for Retail
Mark CollettAs we come out of the holidays (occupational hazard), I find myself reflecting on how well retail establishments are working to secure their locations. With the highest volume of shoppers in four years, surely the risk to the store owners, employees and patrons increased.

Most stores attempt to protect assets and people while maintaining a pleasant shopping experience. This brings me to Sony - As I continue to get familiar with our vast product line one thing is for certain - our devices are beautifully designed. Recently in a department store I thought of our X-series cameras. Feature rich and high-performance, but low-profile and aesthetically pleasing. This is the perfect formula for retail surveillance and why many stores turn to Sony to "mind the store". In this month's edition, you'll read a bit more about the X-series and why it is a good solution for stores and restaurants.

Here's where we usually invite you to send us suggestions, but this month I thought I'd make a suggestion to you. Consider the stores you visited recently, did you notice how the stores have taken steps to mitigate risk and please let us know what you think. Did they get it right? What could be better? You can reach me here videomonitoring@am.sony.com.

Here's to a successful and healthy 2011 for you and your business with Sony's help of course.
