The expanding family of Sony's video production technologies now includes three new camcorders that deliver new levels of creativity and flexibility for solid-state digital production, and a versatile full high-definition compact multi-purpose camera.
Designed to bring the benefits of seamless and easy-to-use solid-state production capabilities to professionals and "pro-sumers," Sony's new NXCAM family delivers an ideal combination of image quality and performance. The first model in this series will be a professional camcorder featuring Sony's Exmor™ CMOS sensor with ClearVid array, to deliver full high-definition resolution and low light sensitivity with low noise.
The camcorder will record AVCHD up to 24Mbps, delivering 1920x1080 high definition images with both interlace and progressive modes along with native 1080/24P, 720/60p and MPEG-2 SD recording. The camcorder will include both HD-SDI and HDMI outputs, as well as two-channel linear PCM audio capabilities.
Sony's XDCAM EX family is also growing, with the addition of Sony's first 2/3-inch CMOS memory camcorder, the shoulder-mount model PMW-350, and the PMW-EX1R, which adds DVCAM™ recording capability as well as numerous enhancements directly resulting from customer feedback. These new products redefine solid-state production, with improvements achieved in features, performance, and ergonomics.
The full shoulder-mount PMW-350 camcorder offers professionals the best of both worlds in shoulder-mount applications: a low center of gravity and light weight to ensure stability, while maintaining a familiar, conventional operational UI layout.
Finally, Sony's new HDC-P1 full HD compact multi-purpose camera is unique among other competitive "point-of-view" type cameras for combining 2/3-inch CCD technology and a two-disc filter servo in a small and lightweight design, delivering superb picture quality and unrivalled performance.
Based on the proven performance of Sony's flagship HDC Series studio cameras, the new camera can be used in a range of unmanned and POV HD applications, including stadiums and arenas, as well as conference rooms or schools. It can also be used as a companion camera in automated broadcast studios. The camera is also capable of 2D and 3D operation, when used in a 3D camera rig configuration.
